How to check a Debts Recovery Tribunal case in Delhi on the official portal, what each search method needs, what the status words mean, and how to follow the case without checking every day.

Court Status · DRT Delhi

You filed an Original Application, or you act for a bank or a borrower, and you need to know the next hearing date at the Debts Recovery Tribunal in Delhi. The cause list is long, benches change, and a missed date can mean an ex parte order. To check DRT Delhi case status, open the official DRT e-portal, go to Case Details, and search by diary number, case number and year, or party name. You can also check the same case in Claw by party name, once you create a free account. Last verified: October 2026.

The short answer
  • Official source: the DRT e-portal, under Case Details, by diary number, case number or party name.
  • Pick the right bench: Delhi has more than one DRT, so a wrong choice shows an empty result.
  • Matters heard: recovery applications under the RDB Act and SARFAESI securitisation applications. Appeals go to the DRAT.
  • In Claw: create a free account, search by party name or number, and set hearing and order alerts.

01What DRT Delhi hears and why status matters

The Debts Recovery Tribunals were created under the Recovery of Debts and Bankruptcy Act, 1993 (earlier called the RDDBFI Act). Banks and financial institutions go there to recover dues above the notified limit. Delhi has more than one DRT bench, and they handle a heavy flow of recovery matters.

Three kinds of matters usually reach a Delhi DRT:

  • Original Applications (OA) filed by a bank or financial institution to recover a debt.
  • Securitisation Applications (SA) filed by a borrower or other person against action taken under the SARFAESI Act, 2002, such as a notice or possession of secured property.
  • Interlocutory Applications (IA) filed inside those cases, for stay, interim relief or directions.

Appeals from a DRT order go to the Debts Recovery Appellate Tribunal (DRAT), which has its own seat in Delhi. Status checks for the DRAT use a separate search on the same portal family.

Status matters here because recovery cases move on short, firm dates. A borrower who misses a date may face an ex parte order. A bank that misses a date may lose time on a live recovery. Knowing the next date and the last order is the first step of every working day.

Scope of this page

This page covers the Delhi DRT only. For the other benches and the wider system, see DRT case search across India.

02How to check DRT Delhi case status on the official portal

The official source is the DRT e-portal run for the Debts Recovery Tribunals. The steps below follow the current layout. Menu names can change, so treat the order as a guide.

  1. Open the official DRT website, drt.gov.in, and go to the e-DRT case status area. The live case search pages sit on drt.etribunals.gov.in.
  2. Click the Case Details tab on the home page.
  3. Choose the search type: diary number, case number, or party name.
  4. Select the tribunal. For Delhi, pick the correct Delhi DRT (DRT I, II or III) from the list.
  5. Enter the details. For a diary number or case number, add the year and case type. For a party name, type the name as it appears on the application.
  6. Enter the captcha and submit.
  7. Open the matching case to see the next hearing date, stage, and the latest order or proceeding.

Take a screenshot or save the page. The portal shows the present status, and an earlier entry may be replaced when the case is listed again.

03Search methods compared

Each method suits a different situation. Use the one that matches what you actually hold in your file.

MethodWhat you needBest whenWatch out for
Diary numberDiary number and yearYou just filed and have the filing receiptThe case number may not exist yet, so only the diary number works at first
Case numberCase type (OA, SA, IA), number and yearThe case is registered and listedWrong case type or year gives an empty result
Party nameName of bank, borrower or guarantorYou lost the number, or you act for a new clientSpellings differ, short names, and many borrowers with the same name

For party name search on the portal, keep the name short and try the main word first. Bank names are often written in several ways, such as the full name, the short name, or with the branch. Borrower names may carry a company suffix like Pvt Ltd or be written as a proprietor. If one spelling fails, try another before assuming the case is missing.

04Which Delhi bench has your case

Delhi has several DRT benches, usually called DRT I, DRT II and DRT III, and the DRAT sits separately for appeals. A matter is not filed in the bench of your choice. It is filed at the DRT that has jurisdiction.

Under the Recovery of Debts and Bankruptcy Act, an application is generally filed in the DRT within whose local limits one of these is true:

  • the bank or financial institution has its branch or office that sanctioned the debt, or
  • the defendant lives, carries on business or works for gain, or
  • the security property or collateral is situated.

For SARFAESI matters, the Securitisation Application is generally filed where the secured asset sits or where the borrower lives or does business. The DRT Delhi sub-bench split for individual parts of Delhi, and any Delhi-linked cases from nearby areas, is set by government notification, so check the current notification before you choose a bench.

This matters for status search. If you pick the wrong Delhi bench in the dropdown, the portal shows no result even though the case exists. If you are unsure, try each Delhi bench in turn.

05Status words explained

The portal uses short words. Here is what they usually mean in a DRT case.

Status wordWhat it means in practice
PendingThe case is live. A hearing, order or step is still due.
DisposedThe case has been decided or closed. Read the final order and check the appeal period before the DRAT.
ListedThe case is on the cause list for a date. Check the bench and time.
For ordersArguments are done or a point is heard, and the Presiding Officer will pass an order.
For appearance / noticeNotice has gone to the defendant, and the tribunal is waiting for service or appearance.
ReservedThe order is kept for later and will be pronounced on a date to be announced.

The Presiding Officer or Registrar may list a case for different purposes on different days: filing of reply, evidence, final hearing or orders. The purpose shown next to the date tells you what to prepare.

A case shown as disposed is not always finished for you. An appeal to the DRAT against a DRT order has a time limit and usually needs a pre-deposit. Check the limit from the order date and the governing section.

06When the search finds nothing

An empty result does not always mean the case is missing. Check these first:

  • Wrong Delhi bench selected, or the case sits in another city DRT.
  • Case type typed wrongly, such as OA instead of SA.
  • Diary number entered where the case number is needed, or the other way round.
  • Party name spelled differently on the filing, or the name of a co-borrower used.
  • A freshly filed case not yet showing, since entry on the portal can lag behind the filing.
  • The portal or captcha is slow. Try again later, off peak hours.

If all of that fails, contact the DRT registry with your filing receipt. The registry holds the final record.

07Where Claw fits

Claw is an all-in-one legaltech platform for Indian advocates, law firms, and corporate legal teams, combining AI-based case search, an AI legal assistant (Legal GPT), case management, and compliance automation across all Indian courts and tribunals.

For DRT Delhi, the official portal remains the primary source and the one to cite. Claw adds convenience on top. DRT Delhi sits within the 9,102 forums that Claw tracks, so you can search by party name or case number in one place, without moving between portals, bench lists and captchas. Search results come back in under 5 seconds, and the wider Claw library holds 30 crore+ judgments for the legal research behind your recovery case.

Status search in Claw needs an account, and the account is free for individual advocates. Create a FREE Claw account and search DRT Delhi by party name or number, with hearing and order alerts. You can add a case to your list and get hearing and order alerts by WhatsApp or email, so a change in date or a new order reaches you without a daily portal check. For the national picture, see case search across Indian courts and how to use NJDG for court data on the regular courts. For a firm that handles many recovery files, legal collections software is the next step.

Claw does not use customer case documents to train AI models.

09Frequently asked questions

How do I check DRT Delhi case status online?

Open the official DRT e-portal, go to Case Details, choose diary number, case number or party name, select the correct Delhi DRT, enter the details and the captcha, and submit. The next date and latest order show on the case page.

Can I check DRT Delhi case status by party name?

Yes. The official portal supports a party name search, and so does Claw. Keep the name short and try more than one spelling. In Claw, you need a free account to run the search.

What is the difference between diary number and case number at DRT?

A diary number is given when the application is filed. A case number (such as OA or SA with a number and year) is given after the registry registers it. A new case may show only under the diary number for a while.

Which cases does DRT Delhi hear?

It hears debt recovery applications by banks and financial institutions under the RDB Act, and securitisation applications against SARFAESI action. Appeals against its orders go to the DRAT.

Is Claw free for checking DRT Delhi cases?

Claw has a free plan for individual advocates, but status search needs you to create an account first. Enterprise and team plans are paid.

Why does the portal show no result for my DRT Delhi case?

The usual reasons are a wrong Delhi bench, a wrong case type or year, a different spelling of the party name, or a very new filing that has not yet appeared. Try another bench and spelling, then contact the registry with your filing receipt.
