01How to check CAT case status online
The Central Administrative Tribunal hears service matters of central government employees. Its official case information system is the primary source for status. Use this process for a CAT case status check online or a central administrative tribunal case status search, whether the bench is Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad or Bangalore.
- Open the CAT case status page at cis.cgat.gov.in. The main CAT website is cgat.gov.in.
- Select the bench where the case was filed (for example Principal Bench New Delhi, Chennai or Mumbai). The search is bench-wise, so the wrong bench shows no result.
- Choose how you want to search: case number, diary number, party name or advocate name.
- For a case number search, pick the case type (OA, MA, TA, RA, CP or similar), then enter the number and the year.
- For a party name search, type the applicant or respondent name. Use the shortest part of the name that is certain, because spelling changes cause misses.
- Enter the captcha shown on the page and submit.
- Open the matching case row to see the current status, next hearing date and the latest order or daily order.
Newly filed case not showing?
A fresh filing first gets a diary number. The permanent OA number comes only after the registry registers the matter. Search by diary number first. If it still does not appear after about two weeks, call the registry of that bench.

02CAT case status search methods compared
You can do a CAT case status check online in four ways. Pick the one that matches what you have in hand. The bench row shows how to browse a whole bench, such as the Principal Bench Delhi or a circuit bench.
| Method | What you need | Where to enter it | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| By case number | Bench, case type (OA, MA, TA etc.), number, year | Official portal: case number search. Or Claw. | Most exact. Use this when you have the registered number. |
| By diary number | Bench, diary number, year | Official portal: diary number search. Or Claw. | Best for a recent filing that has no OA number yet. |
| By party name | Bench, applicant or respondent name | Official portal: party name search. Or Claw, which searches every bench at once. | Use when the number is lost. Try spelling variants. The portal searches one bench at a time. |
| By bench (Principal Bench Delhi or a regional or circuit bench) | Bench name, then cause list or case search for that bench | Official portal: select the bench first, then the cause list or search. Circuit benches are listed under their parent bench. | Use when you only know where the case sits. Principal Bench is in New Delhi. |
| By advocate name | Bench, advocate name | Official portal: advocate name search. | Useful for a lawyer who wants all matters at one bench. |
The official portal is the source of truth for each of these. A tool like Claw sits above it and saves you the repeat work of choosing a bench each time.

04What the CAT status words mean
The status page uses short words. Here is what each one means in plain English.
- Pending: the case is still alive. It has not been finally decided.
- Disposed: the Tribunal has decided the case and closed it. The final order is available.
- Listed: the case is on the cause list for a stated date and court room.
- For orders: the hearing is done and the bench is to pass an order, or the case is posted only for an order on a point.
- Reserved: arguments are complete and the bench will announce the order on a later date.
- Admission or notice stage: the bench is deciding whether to admit the application and issue notice to the respondents.
Terms can differ slightly between benches. Read the latest daily order for the exact position.
05Cause list and next hearing date
The status page shows the next hearing date, but the cause list tells you the court room and the item number. CAT publishes cause lists bench-wise on the official site. Check the list of the bench where your case sits, a day before the date.
If you have cases at more than one bench, this means repeated manual checks. See how to manage cause lists across multiple courts and how to get notified when your case is listed.
06Check it in one step with Claw
Create a free Claw account and search CAT (Central Administrative Tribunal) by party name or case number across every bench, with hearing and order alerts.
- Sign up free on clawlaw.in.
- Search by party name or case number. You do not pick a bench first.
- Open the matter to see status, next date and orders, and switch on alerts.
A free account is needed to run the search. The official portal remains the source of truth, and Claw saves you the repeat work across benches.
07Where Claw fits
Claw is an all-in-one legaltech platform for Indian advocates, law firms, and corporate legal teams, combining AI-based case search, an AI legal assistant (Legal GPT), case management, and compliance automation across all Indian courts and tribunals.
For CAT, the useful part is tracking. Claw covers 9,102 courts, benches and forums, so a CAT matter can sit in the same dashboard as a High Court appeal or a district court case. You get automatic status updates, a single calendar of cause lists, and WhatsApp and email alerts when a matter is listed. Claw also reads court orders and can flag compliance dates, which matters when a CAT order sets a deadline.
