Birth and Death Certificate Download in Rajasthan: Online Process, Correction, and Late Registration (2026)
How to download a birth or death certificate in Rajasthan online, what to do when the record is wrong, and what to do when a birth or death was never registered on time.
How-To · Rajasthan · Civil Registration
You need a birth or death certificate in Rajasthan, and you want it today without standing in a queue. For most records registered in recent years, you can download it online in a few minutes. The trouble starts when the name or date on the record is wrong, or when the birth or death was never registered. This guide covers all three: the normal download, correction of errors, and late registration.
- Normal download: search the Rajasthan Pehchan portal by registration number and year, check the record, download the digitally signed PDF.
- Wrong entry: apply to the registrar with an affidavit and proof. A refusal can lead to a court order.
- Never registered: register late. The route gets stricter after 21 days, 30 days and one year, and after one year a magistrate or competent authority order is needed.
- Always check: fees and forms on the official portal before you pay.
01Quick answer
To download a birth or death certificate in Rajasthan, open the state Pehchan civil registration portal, search by registration number and year (or by name and date), check the record, and download the digitally signed PDF. The fee for a first copy is usually small or nil. If the record is wrong or was never registered, you may need an affidavit and, if the authority refuses, a magistrate order.

02Who can apply and where to apply
Births and deaths in India are registered under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, and each state runs its own system under its own rules. In Rajasthan, the Pehchan portal is the state platform for registering births, deaths and marriages, and records come in from hospitals, urban local bodies and gram panchayats.
- Birth certificate: the parents, the person named on it, or a guardian or authorised person can apply.
- Death certificate: a family member, the person who reported the death, or an authorised person such as a legal heir can apply.
- Where: the state Pehchan portal, the national CRS portal for records that flow into it, or an e-Mitra kiosk if you prefer help in person.
Use the portal that holds your record. Recent hospital births and deaths are normally in the state system. Very old records may sit only with the local registrar.
03Step by step: download a certificate online
The steps are the same for birth and death. Keep the details handy before you start.
- Collect details. Registration number and year if you have them. If not, keep the full name, date of the event, place, and a parent’s name ready.
- Open the official portal. Go to the Rajasthan Pehchan portal (pehchan.rajasthan.gov.in). Do not use look-alike sites that ask for money before showing you the record.
- Choose the service. Select the birth or death certificate search or download option.
- Search the record. Enter the registration number and year, or the name and date of the event, and the district or local body.
- Check every detail. Read the name, date, place, sex and parents’ names carefully. A small spelling error now becomes a big problem later.
- Pay if asked. Pay only through the official payment page and keep the receipt.
- Download the PDF. The certificate is a digitally signed PDF. Save a copy and print it on plain paper. It is valid without a wet signature when it carries the digital signature and QR or verification details.
You can also search the national CRS portal (crsorgi.gov.in) for records that were uploaded there.
04Certificate types, where to get them, and fees
| Certificate | Where | Fee (check live portal) |
|---|---|---|
| Birth certificate, registered on time | Rajasthan Pehchan portal or national CRS portal | First copy is usually free or a small fee; confirm on portal |
| Death certificate, registered on time | Rajasthan Pehchan portal or national CRS portal | First copy is usually free or a small fee; confirm on portal |
| Extra or later copies | Same portal or e-Mitra kiosk | Small per-copy fee; kiosk may add a service charge |
| Late registration (after the time limit) | Local registrar, with an order where required | Late fee set by the state rules; confirm with the registrar |
Do not trust any fee figure you see on a third-party site. Fees are fixed by the state and can change.
05Correction of a wrong name or date
If the downloaded certificate has a wrong name, date or parent’s name, you cannot fix it on the screen. The law allows the registrar to correct a genuine clerical or formal error in an entry, but you must ask in the proper way.
What you usually need
- A written application to the registrar who holds the entry, stating exactly what is wrong and what it should be.
- A sworn affidavit by the applicant (or a parent) explaining the error. If the change is to a name, our guide to the name change affidavit format shows how such an affidavit is worded.
- Proof that supports the correct detail, for example hospital record, school record, Aadhaar, or ID of the parents. For a death, proof of the deceased’s details and of your relation.
What to expect
For a simple spelling mistake with good proof, the registrar may correct it after checking. The corrected entry is then issued as a new certificate. If you want to change a name completely, or the change looks like a different identity (for example a different date of birth by years), the registrar may refuse and ask for a court order.
06Late or delayed registration
Under the national Act, a birth or death should be reported within 21 days. If it was not, the record will not appear on any portal, because there is nothing to find. You must first register it late. The rules work in stages.
- After 21 days but within 30 days: the registrar can usually register it on payment of a late fee.
- After 30 days but within one year: written permission of the designated authority is needed, along with an affidavit and the late fee.
- After one year: registration needs an order from a magistrate of the proper rank or the competent authority, along with the affidavit and the late fee.
You will normally be asked for proof of the event (hospital slip, school record, cremation or burial receipt, or a statement from neighbours or the local body) and proof of your identity. After the order is passed, the registrar enters the event and you can download the certificate like any other.
07When a refusal becomes a legal dispute
Most applications are routine. Trouble begins when the authority refuses a correction or a late registration, or when a family argues about the facts, for example in an inheritance or property case. At that stage you are no longer filling a form. You are in a legal dispute.
- Ask for the refusal in writing, with reasons.
- Check the appeal or review route named in the rules, and the time limit for it.
- If there is no remedy left, a civil court or the High Court may be approached, usually through an advocate.
Keep every receipt, order and application. If you are doing this for a property matter, you may also need an encumbrance certificate for the same family.
