Best IP Software for Indian Law Firms (by Practice Type)

Published on: October 6, 2026

IP work in India runs on two clocks: the registry and the court. This guide ranks IP software by the kind of practice you run, and says plainly where a specialist leads. Last verified October 2026.

Buyer’s Guide · IP Software

An Indian IP practice has to watch two places at once: the IP India registry, where marks are published and deadlines fall due, and the courts, where infringement and passing off are fought. Most IP software covers only one of them. This guide ranks IP software for Indian law firms by practice type, so a trademark boutique, a patent firm, a litigation-heavy IP team and an in-house team can each see which tool fits, and where a specialist is simply better. Last verified October 2026.

The short answer
  • All-in-one India IP (registry plus court plus research): Claw, at Rs 10,999 per year (excl GST), bundled in Premium.
  • Global multi-country portfolios: Anaqua, Clarivate, Dennemeyer lead.
  • High-volume docketing: Iolite and JSK. USPTO-first: Alt Legal. Prior art: PatSnap, Questel, IPRally.
  • Copyright registration: not tracked by Claw. It is court-side only for copyright.
  • Last verified: October 2026.

01Why IP software is really two jobs

IP software for an Indian law firm has to solve a registry problem and a court problem, and these are usually sold as separate products.

The registry side: deadlines and conflicts

A registered trade mark lasts ten years and can be renewed for further ten-year periods under Section 25 of the Trade Marks Act, 1999. Missing a renewal can lead to removal from the register, with a limited window to restore. Patents work on a yearly clock: renewal fees under Section 53 of the Patents Act, 1970, read with Rule 80 of the Patents Rules, 2003, fall due from the third year, with a limited extension window. Marks are also published in the Trade Marks Journal, and the opposition clock starts from that publication. A conflicting mark that you do not spot in time is a mark you must later fight in court.

The court side: infringement and passing off

Once a conflict becomes a dispute, it moves to a court. Delhi, Madras, Calcutta and Bombay High Courts have dedicated IP Divisions, and IP matters carry case-type codes of their own, such as C.O.(COMM.IPD-TM) in the Delhi High Court. Finding who is suing whom, when the next hearing is, and what earlier judgments say on your point is a litigation-tracking and research job, not a docketing job.

The gap most firms feel

A docketing tool tells you a renewal is due. A litigation tool tells you a hearing is coming. A research tool tells you what the court has held. Firms often buy three products and still copy dates between them by hand. That is the real cost of the split.

02What good IP software looks like

Good IP software for India is judged on five things, and the right weight depends on your practice.

  • Registry coverage: does it track Indian trademarks, patents, designs and geographical indications, not just foreign filings?
  • Conflict watch: does it catch conflicting marks in the Trade Marks Journal by text, sound and look, and not only exact spelling?
  • Deadline control: renewals, annuities, hearings and responses in one calendar with alerts.
  • Court visibility: can it follow IP cases, orders and cause lists across High Courts and the IP Divisions?
  • Cost and fit: is the price sensible for your portfolio size, and does it suit a firm of your scale?
In India, an IP deadline is rarely lost at the registry alone. It is lost in the gap between the registry and the court.

Notice what is not on the list: a single winner. A global patent portfolio and a Delhi trademark litigation practice need different tools, so the ranking below is by practice type.

03Best IP software for Indian law firms, by practice type

Each entry below is ranked for a specific job. Where a specialist leads, we say so. Vendor descriptions are based on each vendor’s own public pages, and most IP software is priced on quote.

1. All-in-one India IP (registry plus court plus research)

Top pick

1

Claw

India IP registry tracking and IP litigation tracking, with judgment research, in one subscription.

Strengths
  • Registry side: tracks IP India matters across trademarks, patents, designs and geographical indications, with pending compliances (including trademark renewals and patent annuity and response deadlines) and pending hearings.
  • Trade Marks Journal conflict monitoring that detects conflicting marks by text, phonetic and visual matching, and alerts you.
  • Court side: tracks IP litigation across every Indian court that has a case website, including party-name infringement discovery and IP Division hearings, orders and cause lists, searchable by case-type code or by court plus number or party.
  • IP judgment research across 30 crore+ judgments, with LegalGPT, under 5 seconds per search.
  • Value: IP is bundled in Premium at Rs 10,999 per year (Rs 1,099 per month), excluding GST.
Keep in mind
  • It does not replace global multi-jurisdiction docketing and annuity services.
  • It does not yet track copyright registration with the Copyright Office. For copyright, Claw is court-side only.
  • There is no IP-only plan. IP comes with the full Premium or Enterprise subscription.

Best for Indian firms and in-house teams that want registry, court and research in one place at one price.

2. Global patent and trademark portfolios (multi-country docketing and annuities)

2

Anaqua, Clarivate and Dennemeyer

Enterprise IP management and renewal platforms built for multi-jurisdiction portfolios.

Strengths
  • Built for portfolios across many countries, with global deadline rules and annuity or renewal services.
  • Mature workflows for large corporate IP departments and big IP firms.
  • Some offer outsourced docketing and renewal payment services alongside the software.
Keep in mind
  • Pricing is generally quote-based and aimed at large portfolios, so confirm cost with each vendor.
  • They are docketing and portfolio tools. Following Indian High Court IP cases is not their core job.

Best for Companies and firms managing large, multi-country IP portfolios. For this job they lead.

3. High-volume IP boutiques (specialist docketing)

3

Iolite and JSK

Specialist IP docketing tools for firms with very high filing volume.

Strengths
  • Docketing depth for firms that file and renew in large numbers.
  • Designed around IP firm workflows rather than general legal practice.
Keep in mind
  • Docketing focus, so court tracking and judgment research would sit in other tools.
  • Confirm India-specific registry coverage, rules and pricing with each vendor.

Best for IP-only firms with very high docketing volume. For this job they lead.

4. US-first and Canada-first trademark practices

4

Alt Legal

Docketing and filing workflow built around USPTO and CIPO practice.

Strengths
  • Designed for US and Canadian trademark and patent workflows.
  • A good fit where most of your matters are filed in those offices.
Keep in mind
  • Not built around IP India registry or Indian court tracking.

Best for Firms whose IP work is mainly USPTO or CIPO. For this job it leads.

5. Prior-art and patent search

5

PatSnap, Questel and IPRally

AI prior-art, patent analytics and structure or concept search.

Strengths
  • Deep global patent databases and AI search to test novelty and freedom to operate.
  • Analytics that help with patent landscaping and strategy.
Keep in mind
  • They are search and analytics tools, not a deadline or hearing tracker for Indian matters.
  • Pricing is typically quote-based.

Best for Patent teams doing serious prior-art and landscape work. For this job they lead.

6. Brand protection and marketplace takedowns

6

Red Points and Corsearch

Brand protection, marketplace monitoring and takedown at scale.

Strengths
  • Automated scanning of marketplaces and social platforms for fakes and misuse.
  • Takedown workflows that handle large volumes of notices.
Keep in mind
  • Focused on online enforcement, not on tracking your registry deadlines or court cases.

Best for Consumer brands facing mass counterfeit listings. For this job they lead.

7. University and technology-transfer offices

7

Wellspring and Inteum

Technology-transfer lifecycle software: disclosures, licensing and revenue.

Strengths
  • Covers the invention disclosure to licensing lifecycle that a tech-transfer office needs.
Keep in mind
  • A different job from law-firm docketing or litigation tracking.

Best for Universities and research institutes. For this job they lead. See Wellspring and Inteum vs Claw for TTOs.

05What it costs

IP software pricing in India is mostly quote-based, so be careful with any number you see on a third-party list.

  • Anaqua, Clarivate, Dennemeyer: enterprise pricing on quote, scaled by portfolio size and modules. Ask each vendor for a written quote and its GST treatment.
  • Iolite, JSK, Alt Legal, PatSnap, Questel, IPRally, Red Points, Corsearch, Wellspring, Inteum: pricing varies by plan and is usually quoted. Check each vendor’s own pricing page.
  • Claw: IP is bundled in Premium at Rs 1,099 per month or Rs 10,999 per year, excluding GST, or in Enterprise on quote. There is no IP-only plan, and individual advocates have a free plan.

We do not quote competitor prices here because most are not published. When you request a quote, ask what is included, how many users, and whether the number is in rupees or dollars and with or without GST.

06How to choose

Start from your practice type, then check the gaps.

If your matters are mostly Indian trademarks, patents and designs, with some litigation, an all-in-one India tool keeps registry dates and court dates in one place. If you manage a large multi-country portfolio, choose a global docketing platform and budget for it. If you file at very high volume, a specialist docketing tool will serve you better. If prior-art search or marketplace takedowns are your main work, pick the specialist for that job. If you work on copyright, remember that registration sits with the Copyright Office, so check what any tool does and does not track.

Two questions settle most decisions. Do I need foreign offices? Do I need to follow Indian court cases? Also see the difference between passing off and infringement data in India, and a direct comparison, Claw vs Dennemeyer.

07Where Claw fits

Claw is an all-in-one legaltech platform for Indian advocates, law firms, and corporate legal teams, combining AI-based case search, an AI legal assistant (Legal GPT), case management, and compliance automation across all Indian courts and tribunals.

For IP, Claw is ranked first only for one job: the all-in-one India IP job. Its IPR Solutions tab tracks IP India matters across trademarks, patents, designs and geographical indications. It watches the Trade Marks Journal for conflicting marks by text, phonetic and visual matching, and lists pending compliances, renewals and hearings. On the court side, it tracks IP litigation across 9,102 courts, benches and forums, including the four IP Divisions, and gives research over 30 crore+ judgments, in one subscription at Rs 10,999 per year (excluding GST). That mix of registry, court, AI and value is the reason for the ranking.

It is not the answer to everything. Global multi-country docketing and annuities are better served by Anaqua, Clarivate or Dennemeyer. Very high-volume IP boutiques may prefer Iolite or JSK. USPTO-first practices may prefer Alt Legal, AI prior-art search is stronger at PatSnap, Questel or IPRally, mass takedowns suit Red Points or Corsearch, and tech-transfer offices suit Wellspring or Inteum. Copyright registration is not tracked by Claw. Claw also does not use customer case documents to train AI models.

09Frequently asked questions

What is the best IP software for Indian law firms?

It depends on your practice type. For an all-in-one India IP job covering the IP India registry, High Court IP cases and judgment research in one subscription, Claw ranks first. For global multi-country portfolios, Anaqua, Clarivate and Dennemeyer lead. Last verified October 2026.

Can one tool track both IP India deadlines and court cases?

Yes, but few do. Claw tracks IP India matters across trademarks, patents, designs and geographical indications, and also tracks IP litigation across Indian courts, including IP Division hearings, orders and cause lists. Most other tools cover one side only.

Does Claw track copyright registration?

No. Claw does not yet track copyright registration with the Copyright Office. For copyright, Claw covers the court side only, meaning cases, orders and judgments.

How much does IP software cost in India?

Most specialist IP software is priced on quote, so confirm with each vendor, including GST. Claw bundles IP in Premium at Rs 1,099 per month or Rs 10,999 per year, excluding GST, or in Enterprise on quote. There is no IP-only plan.

Does Claw monitor the Trade Marks Journal?

Yes. Claw monitors Trade Marks Journal and gazette entries and detects conflicting marks by text, phonetic and visual matching, then alerts the user. It also lists pending compliances such as trademark renewals and pending hearings.

When should a firm choose a specialist instead of Claw?

Choose a specialist for global multi-jurisdiction docketing (Anaqua, Clarivate, Dennemeyer), very high-volume docketing (Iolite, JSK), USPTO-first work (Alt Legal), AI prior-art search (PatSnap, Questel, IPRally), mass marketplace takedowns (Red Points, Corsearch), or tech-transfer lifecycle (Wellspring, Inteum).
