A step-by-step guide to checking Allahabad High Court case status online by case number, CNR or party name, for the Prayagraj seat and the Lucknow Bench. Last verified October 2026.

How-To Guide · Allahabad High Court

You filed a writ at Prayagraj, or your client has a bail matter listed at Lucknow, and you need to know today whether it is pending, listed, or already disposed. To check Allahabad High Court case status online, open the official High Court website or the eCourts High Court Services portal, choose the High Court and the right bench, and search by case number, CNR number or party name. If you do not want to repeat this for every matter, you can also track the same matters in Claw by party name, with hearing and order alerts.

The short answer
  • Official routes: allahabadhighcourt.in and the eCourts High Court Services portal.
  • Pick the seat first: Allahabad (Prayagraj) or Lucknow.
  • Best search: CNR number, then case number, then party name.
  • To track many matters: create a free Claw account for hearing and order alerts.

01The problem with checking status by hand

The Allahabad High Court serves Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state in India, and it handles a very large number of matters across two locations. A single lawyer, bank officer or litigant may follow ten or fifty cases there. Each one needs its own search, its own bench selection, and its own check of the latest order.

Three things go wrong again and again.

  • Wrong bench. A case filed at Lucknow will not show up if you search the Allahabad seat. People think the case is missing when they simply picked the wrong place.
  • Name confusion. The city of Allahabad is now called Prayagraj, but the court keeps its name. Searching for the wrong label in a menu wastes time.
  • Stale information. A status you checked last week may have changed after a hearing. Without a reminder, you find out late.

The rest of this guide shows how to avoid each of these. It covers only the Allahabad High Court. For the wider category of tools that follow High Court matters, see our guide to High Court case tracking software.

02Allahabad High Court benches and jurisdiction

The High Court of Judicature at Allahabad has its principal seat at Allahabad (Prayagraj) and a Bench at Lucknow. Its territorial jurisdiction is the state of Uttar Pradesh. Cases are filed at the seat or bench that has jurisdiction over the district or subject, so you must pick the right one when you search.

Seat or benchLocationWhat to remember
Principal SeatAllahabad (Prayagraj)The original seat of the High Court. Select Allahabad in the bench list.
Lucknow BenchLucknowHears matters from the districts assigned to it. Select Lucknow in the bench list.

If you are not sure where a case was filed, check the case papers. The case number and the filing stamp usually show the seat. If you still cannot tell, try each in turn, or search by party name, which is easier than guessing.

03How to check Allahabad High Court case status on the official portal

You have two official routes. The High Court’s own website and the eCourts High Court Services portal both give case status. The steps are similar.

Route 1: the High Court website

  1. Open the official website, allahabadhighcourt.in.
  2. Find the case status link in the main menu. At the time of writing it is listed as Status Reports.
  3. Select the seat: Allahabad or Lucknow.
  4. Pick how you want to search (case number, party name, or other option shown).
  5. Enter the details, fill in the captcha, and submit.
  6. Open the matching case to see its status, next date and orders.

Route 2: eCourts High Court Services

  1. Open hcservices.ecourts.gov.in.
  2. Choose Case Status.
  3. Select Allahabad High Court from the list of High Courts.
  4. Select the bench: Allahabad or Lucknow.
  5. Choose a search tab, such as case number, CNR number, party name, advocate name or FIR number.
  6. Enter the details and the captcha, then click Go.
  7. Click View against the case to see the full status.

Tip

Search by CNR number when you have it. A CNR is unique to one case, so it avoids the wrong-bench and wrong-number problems.

04Ways to search for an Allahabad High Court case

Pick the method that matches what you have in hand.

MethodWhat you enterBest when
Case numberCase type, case number and yearYou have the registered case number from an order or notice.
CNR numberThe 16 character Case Number RecordYou have the CNR. This is the most exact search.
Party namePetitioner or respondent name, with yearYou do not have the number. Spelling must be close to the record.
Advocate nameName of the counsel on recordYou want to see matters filed by one lawyer or firm.
FIR numberFIR number, year and police stationThe matter comes from a criminal case, such as a bail application or a petition to quash an FIR.
Filing numberFiling number and yearThe case is newly filed and has no registered number yet.

Party name search is the one people use most, and the one that fails most. Uttar Pradesh records often show the same name in several spellings, or a father’s name added after it. If you get no result, try a shorter form of the name and a wider year range. Teams that follow many matters usually keep them in one place instead of searching one by one. See how a single litigation registry workflow works for an example.

05What the status fields mean

Once you open a case, you will see a few status terms. Here is what they mean in plain words.

StatusMeaning
PendingThe case is still alive. It has not been finally decided.
DisposedThe court has finally decided the case. Check the final order for the result.
ListedThe case is placed on the cause list for a hearing on a given date.
For ordersThe case is listed only for the court to pass an order, often after arguments or on an application.
ReservedArguments are finished and the court has kept its judgment for a later date. The judgment is not yet pronounced.

Also look at the next hearing date, the court number and judge, and the list of orders. The order text often tells you more than the one-line status. To understand the daily list itself, read how to read a cause list.

06Common problems and quick fixes

  • No record found. Re-check the seat, the case type and the year. Then try the CNR or party name.
  • Captcha errors. Refresh the captcha and type it exactly.
  • Portal slow or down. Government portals can be slow at peak hours. Try again later or use the other official route.
  • Status looks old. Updates depend on the registry entering orders. A very recent hearing may not show yet.
  • Cannot find the cause list. The daily cause list is a separate section on the High Court website. Search it by date and seat.
